It would be pretty damn embarrassing if she was in the wrong place right now.
She had checked and double checked to be sure this was the right place, but it felt all wrong. Not wrong like she was about to stumble upon some murdered co-eds bitter ghost, but wrong like she was on some movie set. Fake.
Was this really the life Sam had ditched them for?

He glanced over his shoulder, checking to see if Jess was still sleeping next to him, before pushing to his feet and quietly making his way into the apartment. Months have living there had taught him where all the noisy areas of the apartment are, and he skirts around them, heading towards the source of the sound and whoever was there.

The flash light dropped away from the fridge with a soft snort. Those photos were all like a damn commercial for beer or something. Manufactured feeling.

Though they were shorter than he expected.
Regardless, his hand came down their shoulder to turn them around.

Use to sparring with him since she was a kid, De's body went into automode. She ducked down, spinning and throwing her weight under and up to throw off his taller height.
Maybe a bit agressive of a hello, but he should be use to it.

It made her laugh. A short little bark of laughter, mainly at the mental image of where that would go. Sam with a beer gut, Sam huffing up a flight of stairs. Like some bad 80's sports montage in reverse.
She stepped back into the shadows, watching him. Waiting for him to at least catch her. Prove he still had something worth while left in him.

"I thought you'd lost it."

"De?"

She pushed herself up on her elbows, and grinned, not sure if he could see her in the dark.
"Long time no see."
no subject
"What are you doing here?"
no subject
"We need to talk."
no subject
"And you couldn't just call?"
no subject
"Plus this way you can't hang up on me."
no subject
"So what was so urgent that you needed to break into my apartment?"
no subject
Because she knew there was going to be a fight to get him to care.
"Dad's missing."
no subject
You forget, De, that this is Sam's father too. He knows him as well as you do.
no subject
"Missing." She said, voice short. She clearly wanted to add more, but she wouldn't. She shouldn't have to.

Day stretched to weeks often enough. But weeks didn't usually stretch into months.

But they were all each other had. They should stick together.
Then again, Sam wasn't really one to talk.
He glanced back to the bedroom for a moment, to make sure that Jess wasn't awake, before crossing his arms in front of his chest. "What was he hunting?"
no subject
"It's not a hunt I can do. They only react to males."
Cheating ones, specifically. Though Sam would know that.

He pressed his lips together, before sighing. "Can you have me back by Monday?"
no subject
As soon as he said it, there was a spark of excitement. She'd won, they were back in it. Together.

"Need to leave a note?"

As soon as he was out of the room, she was back up, looking around and the stuff sitting near by. The walls, the counters. A whole little life in this apartment.
Weird.

And then she escaped his grasp and made her way into the open room before Sam could stop her.
"Are you De?"

And, in a very different context, Sam's new girl. She wasn't exactly an overbearing mother bemoaning the loss of her little boy, but there was some echo of replacement there.
Except, of course, her replacement was hot as hell.
"Damn, too bad you bat for the wrong team."
no subject
"It's nice to actually meet you. Sam talks about you all the time." Well, not actually talk, but mention. A lot.

It was De's turn to look back at Sam, unsure. Finally she just laughed, and offered a hand to Jess. Now wasn't the time or place.
"I'll get your boyfriend back to you soon."
no subject
"Don't forget about your interview."
"I won't," Sam sighed, before leaning in to give her a quick kiss. "I'll be back by Monday."
Don't rush, I know you are doing nano bb <3
"You're getting soft, dude. Next time I come out you're gonna have a beer gut."

She was interested both in it not being, and also, what Sam thought she thoughts it would be.

"Yeah, a good life for other people."
But not them. Never them.

He might not know it now, but he would, later.

She stares up at him, scowling. This trip was going well already.

She wasn't going to argue this point with him. He'd figure it out himself, eventually. Pulling open the impala door, she slip in and started her up.

Starting up the car, De peeled away from the curb and towards the highway. Away from his apartment and all the weight of that.

"A woman in white. Who's not exactly going to show her face to a single young lady."
She sniggered at herself as she said that last part. Lady.
